All-County basketball player Hannah Stines is back at Orangewood Academy.
The senior transferred back to the private school in Garden Grove on Tuesday after spending the first few months of the school year at Troy, where she wasn’t cleared by the CIF-Southern Section to play varsity, Spartans coach Leslie Aragon and Stines’ mother Sharie confirmed.
Stines played her first two seasons at Troy before transferring last year to Orangewood Academy. She observed the section’s sitout rule for transfers in the spring before leading the Spartans to the CIF-SS Open Division playoffs.
Stines then returned to Troy in August but was ruled ineligible for varsity competition by the section.
Aragon said Stines’ eligibility at Orangewood Academy has yet to be determined but she will be welcomed back. “We were disappointed she left by realize everyone has choices,” he said.
The Spartans (2-1) are scheduled to play a showcase game Saturday at La Salle before playing host to their tournament next week. Troy (4-0) also plays host to its tournament next week.
