Duncan Robinson just made history with his new contract.
The Miami Heat and Robinson agreed on a reported five-year, $90 million contract on Friday, making him the highest-paid undrafted player ever.
The NBA free agency deal includes a player option after the fourth year in his contract.
Robinson was the latest big contract of the day for the Heat, who also are set to agree to a max extension with star Jimmy Butler, and acquired free agent Kyle Lowry in a sign-and-trade with the Raptors.
Robinson started his journey playing for Williams College, a D-III school in Massachusetts. After leading the Ephs to the championship and becoming the 2014 Division III Rookie of the Year and a Division III All-American, Robinson transferred to the University of Michigan. He had a solid career in Ann Arbor before failing to be drafted in the 2018 NBA Draft.
The York, Maine native signed a Summer League contract with the Heat and started playing for their G-League team. After five games, Robinson signed a two-way contract with Miami and made his debut. It took a few years for Robinson to really make his presence felt, though.
The 27-year-old’s star rose during the Heat’s 2020 Final run in the bubble. The sharpshooter averaged 11.7 points and three 3-pointers per game while shooting 39.7%.
This season, Robinson averaged 13.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.5 3-pointers per game. After shooting 40.8% from 3-point range, he is now amongst the best shooters in the game.
